The marvelous monocled mouse
by leighroy marsh - author/songwriter...
There’s a marvelous monocled mouse that I know
Who lives in cupboard quite high
Each night with delight, he goes for a walk and
Counts all the stars in the sky
By his side is his bride, and the mouse that he loves
With whiskers so fine and so fair
Who sings to the children each night before bed
While she rocks in a lavender chair
One day said the mouse, there’s no food in the house
We are down to our last piece of cheese
We must go to explore, on the old kitchen floor
For carrots or biscuits or peas
Agreed said his wife and the love of his life
As they opened the old cupboard door
he undid his coat and he pulled out a rope
And then lowered himself to the floor
They soon hit the ground , and looked all around
But there just was no food to be had,
He looked at his wife, the love of his life
And exclaimed to her “things are quite bad”
Have no fear, husband my dear for I’ve heard of a place
Where the cheese almost reaches the sky
We can get there quite soon if we travel by moon
If we don’t we will probably die
We must take great care - and be ever aware
For there’s dangerous perils ahead
So we must take up arms - to keep us from harm
Or we’ll end up as dinner instead
So hand in hand with his bride, he set off outside
To the place where the cheeses are stored
With some old orange peel that he used as a shield
And spaghetti instead of a sword.
Past some old rusty tools and a stable of mules
And the cobbles, so cold and so hard
They quietly crept, whilst everyone slept
To the store at the end of the yard
But….
Quietly sat was the farmers old cat
Who was watching the mice with some glee
And soon hatched a scheme that was wicked and mean
To catch the poor mice for his tea.
Out jumped the cat and in 5 seconds flat
Had the marvelous mouse in his claws,
I’ll have both of you with some dumplings and stew
he hissed through the teeth in his jaws.
You won't said his wife with no fear for her life,
She climbed up and sat on his snout
She shouted beware and jumped in the air
Then brought her hand down with a clout.
Ouch went the cat “there was no need for that”
It was only a game that I play,
He rubbed his poor nose and then straightened his clothes
And watched the mice scurry away,
On went the pair through the cool summer air
Over cobbles so cold and so hard
In an old wooden box was a hungry old fox
Who fancied the mice as a snack,
I know just the trick, I’ll pretend to be sick
with that he stretched out on his back
He gave out a yelp, and cried out for help
To the mice that were walking close by,
Please If you don’t mind, would you be so kind
Take care said his wife and have fear for your life
For that fox is too cunning and sly
We had better make sure his intentions are pure
For I think he’s telling a lie!
