AN AUTUMN WEEKEND...

Well another week has gone by and we're in the Middle of October!!!!

Everyone busy doing there thing,  me however organizing the Tiler  - OH YES!  he has arrived

and getting on with finishing the Utility room…

it's taken flippin' ages to get this far  - bl**dy long drawn out Job but hopefully over the next couple of days it will be finished  - yippeeeee…

So next week I'm going to give you brief look at another tale Leighroy has written

yu'know what,  he just writes and writes and writes!  Golden Arm  is out of the next book (soon tobe published) from Spooky Tales so watch out for this  amazing second book almost nail biting wondering

what happens in each of the tales - and may I add,   aiming for the older children ages between 7 and upwards…  a scary scary book with a few different stories too read….

Commander-in -Chief -of-the-World

he reached in his bag and then pulled out a disc,

that shimmered and glimmered in the afternoon sun

So…said the wizened old man to the boy…

do you like to play games?,

is it your kind of fun?

have you got the verve, and the guile and the nerve

to keep playing this marvellous game till you’ve won?

The Commander in Chief of the World  was transfixed, 

the hypnotic light sent  him deep in a trance,

what would it cost to get hold of this disc!

he couldn’t pass up on this chance.

He stretched out a hand and took hold of the disc, 

then he thanked the wizened old man with a smile.

He bid him good day and returned to his home,

as the wizened old man stood and watched for a while.

Alone in the house,

he looked at the disc,

there was something mysterious, something quite strange

he was sure he heard voices cry out from within , 

but couldn’t work out what the voices were saying.

With great expectation he loaded the game,

 and gripped the controls in the palm of his hand,

he patiently watched as the credits rolled by,

Strange looking places from faraway lands.

and so he went out, without lasers or guns,

no spaceship to take him around

The Commander in chief   had to wait for a bus

while his mother drove off into town.

He stood at the stop at the top of his road,

and played with the bus fare he held in his hand,

He was joined by a wizened old man with a bag

that was tied with a thick rubber band.

Politely, The Commander-in-Chief-of-the-World, said “Hello”,

and the wizened old man nodded back.

he ask with a laugh,

“Do you know what I have?”

through a smile that was toothless, crooked and black.

Inside this bag is a game that I’ve made,

as he pierced the Commander-in-Chief with a stare,

It’s a game like no other before that you’ve played,

So real and intense, you could swear that you’re there.

He opened the bag for the boy to look in,

and his eyes opened up as he stared... 

deep inside a shimmering, shin, and a strange light glowed within,

"It's hard to find people these days" said the wizened old man

“who will try out this game that I’ve made”

They’re too busy reading or going for walks,

helping their parents or playing some sports

drawing, or listing to music of sorts 

nobody wants to play games….

Commander in Chief of the World

I am Commander-in-Chief-of-the-world

and I haven’t got time to tidy my room,

Alien invaders need to be stopped,

Only I can save us from doom.

If you give me five minutes,

I’ll stop the attack, and send them all back into space

For I am Commander-in-Chief-of-the-World,

and everything else has to wait!

“Tidy your room, and take out the trash

I’ve asked you enough times already today”

“Mum – wait till I’ve won,

I’ll be quick as a flash…it’s important to finish my play”

As he gripped the controls on his smart games console,

the spaceship explodes with a flash and a hiss

He was winning the war, with an all time high score.

Nobody nowhere was better than this.

Then the TV went blank and the world wasn’t saved – somebody, somewhere,

had turned off the power.

“You need some fresh air, 

it’s a beautiful day 

and I don’t want you back for an hour”

A really thick lining of silver!!!!

So there I was seven days ago, updating the blog with nothing but doom and gloom... and feeling very sorry for myself. It's amazing what seven days can do for you...

Steve Garry the actor whose voice was utilised for Zombelina, phoned me and asked if I wanted to have a go at supplying three tracks for a film.....er yeh, and even though the style required was not really my cup of tea, I still managed to spend my free hours during the week coming up with the goods.  I have a feeling though the the film itself will have an adult rating so I can't really tell you more at this stage.

On Tuesday, I was invited to Radcliffe Library in Bury to spend the day reading to local schools from the area:   St Johns, Chapelfield and Gorsefield.

Unsurprisingly, the reading went well with all the schools being enthusiastic about the new material
"Miss Carr's Pies" and "The Pot Bellied Cook" as well as The Hairy Plug Monster and of course Golden Arm - which fast gaining cult status amongst the pupils.  A few books were sold, and the librarians were happy.

On Thursday, I returned to Bury, as the guest author as part of National Poets Day, where this time I played host to Holy Trinity and St Marie's Primary schools in the morning before going to Holy Trinity Primary School in the afternoon. Again I read to about 200 children and they all seemed to be very positive about the whole visit and better still more books were sold.

I even tried out the controversial " There's something wrong with Grandad" (which my mum disapproves of, due to the fact that Grandad has become a victim to the Zombie Apocalypse.)  However, I mentioned to the class before I read it about my mums concerns about it's suitability and got them to vote on it.

The result 34-0 in favour of Grandad Zombie....there are parts in it as well that make it possible to act like a Zombie, which got them all going..and then when you follow that up with Golden Arm, well you can't really go wrong can you?.

Needless to say The Hairy Plug Monster was a massive hit with all the years  and even though the Plug Monster machine stalled last week, it seems it is back on the road again and firing on all four cylinders.

I am not sure why, (but very grateful) but I seem to be very popular in Bury with both Waterstones and Bury Library Service always making me feel welcome.
